TROIKA

The Tidewater Custom Shop TROIKA is uniquely engineered extenstion cabinet designed after the famous Marshall 1960A cabinet.

CONSTRUCTION: The TROIKA is a three speaker configuration.  The cabinet is chambered and braced to enhance sonic delivery.  The upper chamber houses two 12" drivers and has an elonged open back design.  The lower chamber contains one 15" driver and is separated from the upper chamber by a removeable braced partition.  A modified Marshall® STEREO/MONO jackplate is used and operates as designed via a custom designed harness. The signal switch designates a path to all speakers simultaneously, or to either the upper or lower chamber.  The cabinet rolls on Marshall® casters into aluminum sockets for years of reliability.  Metal handles are mounted with stainless steel cap screws driven into brass inserts.  The shell, baffle, and rear panel material is 3/4" birch plywood and attached to poplar hardwood framing. 

The entire cabinet to frame fastening system - including the baffle - consists solely of glue and 5/16" oak dowels.  There are absolutely NO metal fasteners whatsoever (screws, nails, brads, staples, etc) used on the permanently fixed components. No screws to loosen over time, which could lead to phantom rattles.  The speaker mounting system, of course, uses machine screws fastened into metallic inserts and uses neoprene bonded sealing washers.  This ensures a snug fit and no metal-to-metal contact.  The baffle is removeable and is fixed to the frame with stainless steel wood screws.  The rear panel uses stainless steel wood screws with brass finish washers. 

SPEAKERS: The TROIKA is loaded with two 12" drivers in the upper chamber, and one 15" driver in the lower chamber.  The drivers include (1) early '90s Celestion G12 Gold alnico, and (1) 1974 Celestion G12H 55Hz ceramic Greenback.  An early '80s JBL E140 driver fills the lower chamber and delivers full range capability.
