This particular guitar has been a favorite platform of mine for nearly 7 years. I special ordered the body, having it constructed of chambered mahogany with a light spruce top. The first iteration included top binding and a standard Telecaster bridge pickup cavity and a humbucker pickup in the neck position. a pelham blue paint job covered the body.
The neck was also a special order. I purchased a strip of brazilian rosewood for this project and sent it to the neck builder to attach to some highly flamed maple. Upon receipt of the neck with the fretboard attached and slotted, the neck was sent to Craig Lavin to have a special fluer-de-lis inlayed. I worked with Craig on the design resulting in what you see now. The neck was returned to the neck builder to install the biggest frets possible.
Let's talk briefly about that case! The cheetah print is NOT a standard lining. It's not even an optional special order item. In 2010 I bought the excellent condition Fender case used on eBay, which was manufactured for Fender by G&G in California, USA. It originally had a plush red lining, but I decided to change that by sourcing cheetah print material. I began to try my hand at the task of replacing the lining, but it's a bit too complex for my skill level. I called G&G to inquire whether they would do it for me. The lady I spoke with said that they do not do this sort of work normally, but told me to send the case with the material to her - specifically - and she would find a craftsman to do it as a favor! The initial cost of the used case was $90 shipped. The material was $40. The cost of shipping both ways was $50. The 'unusual favor' cost $100. I think it was well worth the effort. I don't know whether others have done the same with cheetah print. Mine may be the only G&G case in existence of the kind... at least it is the very first. A true rarity.
